Latest Updates from Our Project:

Screens, Vampires, Combat Maneuvers, & More!
over 2 years ago – Tue, Oct 12, 2021 at 01:56:43 PM

Hello folks! Quite a big update today, so I'll get straight on with it!

New Stretch Goals

We've done incredibly well, and blasted through our initial set of stretch goals. Fortunately, we had some more in our back pocket.

We've got a doozy of one beyond that.... but we'll keep that quiet for the moment!

Combat Maneuvers

Over on the Level Up website, we've previewed Combat Maneuvers. Throughout the coming month, we have a ton of stuff to preview, so do keep an eye out for these. Don't forget we previewed the Adept class, and talked about starting gear past 1st level recently, too!

Shipping

We are constantly looking to add new shipping destinations. Today we added Switzerland. We know folks have been asking about other locations, and we are working hard to find ways to add those. The main barriers to these are the high shipping costs to some locations.

Virtual Tabletop Survey

Thank you to those who took our VTT survey over the weekend. The survey is still open. I can report that as of now, the most requested VTT is Foundry, followed by Roll20. If you are interested in virtual tabletop support, please do take the survey (and if you're not, there's also a couple of questions about Character Builder features there, too).

I think that's it for today! We'll share more news and previews this week! Thank you so much for all your support.

So, about that character builder!
over 2 years ago – Sat, Oct 09, 2021 at 04:28:44 AM

We just passed the £250,000 stretch goal. That's the one which unlocks the Character Builder!

As a recap, we've unlocked a tools website which includes the game rules, plus searchable directories of spells, maneuvers, magic items, and monsters. We've got folks working on that already, and we'll be able to give Kickstarter backers advance access to that when the Kickstarter ends (it won't be fully populated with data yet, but it will have tons on it, and more adding as fast as we can enter it!)

But we know you want to know about the Character Builder.

The CB is not something we've started work on yet. It will be a long (months) project, which we can start planning now we know we can afford to do it. The 'planning' part of that statement is important -- we are only in the planning stages. We will run a survey to find out what it is you want out of a character builder.

The CB will be free.

We already have somebody in line to coordinate this immense project, and we have a budget. It's now a case of getting your feedback, planning the project, and then we can get coding. But it will take months -- there are lots of intricate parts of the game which interact with each other!

So, stay tuned. We'll have the survey up before the Kickstarter ends.

As far as other stretch goals go -- also stay tuned. We'll have more to share on that very soon!

Finally, thank you all for getting us so far. We're so glad that this project we've poured two years and aton of treasure into is resonating with you, and we can't wait to get it in your hands on November 5th!

Class Preview: Adept
over 2 years ago – Thu, Oct 07, 2021 at 04:58:53 AM

Over the next month, we have plenty of fun stuff to show you. Let’s start with a class — and we’ll start at the beginning with the Adept.

The Adept is a class we renamed. While we love the original Eastern-themed monk, we felt that unarmed combatants could encompass a much broader range of archetypes. The Adept, therefore, is a character who masters their body to perfection — they might be an Eastern-themed monk (and we have an archetype/subclass for that), but they might be a burly red-bearded pit-fighting man-mountain, or a highly trained athlete. To that end, we’ve broadened the scope of the class flavor to let you choose.

Of course, there are many, many original monk subclasses out there in addition to our new Warrior Monk archetype. You can use those for a wide variety of monk-style adepts — don’t forget we use the term ‘exertion’ rather than ki, though your adept can call it whatever you choose!

You can check out the Adept here. This is an early proof — it may change slightly before release!

What a launch!
over 2 years ago – Wed, Oct 06, 2021 at 06:03:37 AM

Hey folks!

Well, what a launch! I've run 25 Kickstarters, but never one quite like this. The biggest was the Judge Dredd Kickstarter a few years back, and it looks like we'll eclipse that in the first 24 hours.

So, thank you. I know we've been bugging you about this game for nearly two years. I'm so glad you're still with us!

We funded in about 20 minutes. As I write we're at just over £130K (about $177K). We're whipping through those stretch goals. I'll update the graphic tomorrow when things settle down a little.

I was a guest on the Me and Steve Talks RPGs podcast this week. We talked a lot about Level Up! Please do check the episode out. I had a lot of fun chatting to the two Steves.

If podcasts are your thing, my own podcast, which I host with Peter Coffey, has covered Level Up sevral times recently with Level Up designers as guests. The topic segment is in the second half of these shows (it's a weekly TTRPG news show, so the first half is always the week's RPG news, and some of these are a couple of months old):

Anyway! Onwards and upwards! Thank you all so much for your trust in us. In exchange, I promise to amaze you with our speed of delivery. We don't make you wait!
